THE MANUFACTURE OF A HANDMADE RUG IN AUBUSSON, FRANCE,
IN CREUSE
The manufacture of Jory Pradelle rugs in Aubusson benefits from several centuries
of know-how and quality requirements.
Aubusson, the only area in the world where all the stages in the manufacture
of a rug come together. From the sheep’s fleece to the hand-knotting of the rug,
each step is a matter for experts.
• Jory Pradelle designs your rug and creates a template of it.
He then selects the most appropriate raw material. More often than not,
this is pure sheep’s wool, treated and spun on site in Aubusson.
However, he may choose to use bamboo, cotton, silk or a mixture of natural fibres
for your rug.
• Jory Pradelle creates the colour palette and has the raw material dyed
in full compliance with the colours chosen. It is high-performance
artisanal work that Jory Pradelle masters, and monitors with the local dyers
for the best results.
• Finally, approximately two months later, your hand-tufted Aubusson rug is made,
as an unique piece.
